Coach Cesar Odio…….On Saturday, February 24th,  Barry University is renaming the gym floor in the Health & Sports Center as "Coach Cesar Odio Court" this semester. Although the floor banners were added to the floor in December, the official ceremony will be held on Reunion Weekend, Feb. 24 in between the women's and men's basketball games. The women's game tips at 3:00 pm, while the men follow at about 5:00 pm. "We are honored to have Cesar remembered by the naming of the court at Barry University," Mary K. Odio said. "This was his second home where he spent much of his time positively impacting the student-athletes on campus. We are thankful to Barry University, donors, and alumni for making this a reality." Coach Odio served more than 20 years at Barry University and compiled the most wins by any men's basketball coach at Barry. While he led the team for 17 years, Coach Odio's impact extended well beyond the court. He connected with so many different people and exemplified the meaning of living out Barry's Core Commitments. From his playing days, Cesar was always known for toughness, leadership and devotion to his family. Coach Odio was not only a coach, but a devoted family-man, mentor, friend and father-figure to countless student-athletes and many in the South Florida basketball community. He was committed to ensuring that his athletes completed their education. Even while battling cancer for nine years, he always lived by his motto, "Every day is a great day!" "Appropriately recognizing the commitment and leadership that Coach Odio brought to Barry University and the South Florida community was nearly an impossible thing to accomplish," basketball alumnus Ryan Saunders said. "Naming the court was such an honorable thing for Barry University to do. Special thanks to all of the alumni and supporters who made this happen. Hopefully, each person who comes in the Health & Sports Center will feel the impact he had on not only my life but of countless others."
