WHAT IS THE POLICY FOR CONFIRMED OR SUSPECTED COVID-19 CASES IN STUDENTS OR EMPLOYEES?

If a student or staff member is suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19, they will be asked to stay at home (with remote learning or work options) until the appropriate criteria are met as described below, based on CDC guidance:

If the individual has symptoms, they should stay home until:
1. At least 3 days have passed since recovery (resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and improvement in respiratory symptoms)

2. AND either
a. At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared
b. OR they have a negative result based on authorized
COVID-19 diagnostic tests by a medical professional.

If the individual tested positive in a diagnostic COVID-19 test they must stay home until:
1. At least 10 days have passed since the positive result in the
diagnostic test (assuming no symptoms appeared during that time)

2. OR they have negative results based on authorized
COVID-19 diagnostic tests by a medical professional.

Exposure to a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19:
Contact Tracing and Additional Required Quarantine: Perhaps the most challenging aspect of encountering a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 among our community as we reopen is identifying those students or employees who have been near the infected person on the MCDS campus – and thus must also be quarantined. Luckily, there is a simple numerical
sequence you can remember that will enable you to follow the CDC contact tracing guidelines: 6-15-48.

We will identify students/employees who were unprotected and within 6 feet of them, for 15 minutes or more, within the 48 hours prior to the sick individual showing symptoms, or later.

Exposed students and employees, as identified by the
6-15-48
method outlined above, must remain home for at least 14 days.
