A message from Vanessa Abramowitz, Trustee and Philanthropy Committee Chair
We are Spartans United. For fifteen years, Miami Country Day School has been a second home to my family. A community. As a parent of two graduates and a rising senior, I’m writing to check in on you and your family at this very challenging time. Challenging personally and professionally for me and my family, as it is most likely for you and yours.
It’s been a long ten weeks from the first day back in March when we had to say goodbye to being on campus, goodbye to our friends and teachers, goodbye to class trips, spring break adventures, and end of year traditions. At the same time, a lot of things have happened that truly reflect the united and compassionate community that is Miami Country Day. From the introduction of Spartan Connect that allowed our students to showcase their talents online with performances from Chicago, to spotlighting our seniors on the stage, on the field, and in their new home classroom. Workout Wednesdays were created and classes in Spanish, photography, and dance continue to provide fun opportunities and positive moments together. #SpartansAtHome became a way for families managing work, school, and life together 24/7 to share their stories and stay connected.
In the face of uncertainty and challenge, compassion and community have helped us shift into our current reality. One of our seniors studying fashion design created masks and distributed them to family and friends. Stories about our alumni serving on the frontline as doctors, nurses and wellness providers continue to make us proud of our graduates, and, the speed in which our teachers were able to shift their teaching methods has been impressive. While times are uncertain, the sense of community Miami Country Day School provides has always been a constant. It is special, and even now, the community is strong.
Keeping our community together is important and it is our hope that no student will have to leave Country Day due to temporary financial challenges brought on by the pandemic. The school has helped families with payment plan options and thanks to the generosity of The Nixdorf Family, we have established the Spartan Relief Fund to help with temporary tuition support for the coming year. If you or someone you know is in need of support in this way, please reach out to the Admission Office.
I recognize that we are all doing the best we can and that there are many needs in the world right now. At the same time, this is a great opportunity to affirm your commitment to Miami Country Day School and show your appreciation for the School’s role in children’s lives amidst COVID-19.
