College Admissions Workshop and Parent Program

On Tuesday evening, the College Counseling Office hosted a program for parents of eighth through eleventh grade students. Country Day was privileged to welcome four experienced college admissions representatives from Florida State University, Goucher College (MD), the University of Miami, and The Ohio State University. Our guests spoke on three topics each and then answered questions submitted by the 80-plus parents in attendance.

On Wednesday, these experts conducted case study workshops with our juniors who reviewed four sample applications and, then, acted in mock admissions committees to decide whom to admit, waitlist, or deny. This exercise, often using the same framework, is commonly held at independent schools nationally and internationally. Two of our presenters commended our juniors on the decisions they rendered and the reasons they offered. We look forward to hosting similar programs in the future with admissions experts representing the wide range of colleges and universities that serve our graduates well.
