The Indigenous Advocates Association will facilitate a live Zoom guided discussion around the controversial celebration of Columbus Day and the efforts by many to replace it with Indigenous Peoples' Day.
“This facilitation aims to educate our peers on National Indigenous People's Day and bring attention to it. The group IAA/Dig Deep and this event inspire empathy in our students, advocacy, awareness, and leadership. It shines a light on often silenced communities and gives our students a window into different worlds. This presentation will also introduce students to a new point of view of Columbus Day that many have probably not learned about.” Chaya, Caitlin & Danielle
Students joined the Asian Student Association to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival during lunch! Students were in the cafeteria with calligraphy sets and enjoyed a lunch with Chinese cuisine.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is also called the Moon Festival or the Mooncake Festival. It traditionally falls on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, which is in September or early October on the Gregorian calendar.
In China people have a 3-day public holiday from September 19th to 21st.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is the second most important festival in China after Chinese New Year. Chinese people celebrate it by gathering for dinners, worshiping the moon, lighting paper lanterns, eating mooncakes, etc.
