Support

Under the leadership of Dr. John Davies, Head of School, Miami Country Day School’s Culture of Philanthropy has strengthened over the past five years as evidenced by the recent Campaign for the Arts. This $16.5 million campaign supports the school’s arts program and resulted in a new 35,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that houses all arts programs and a 650-seat theater. As a non-profit independent day school, funds to operate and enhance the school’s programs are generated from tuition, donations and auxiliary revenues. The building of new facilities, such as the Center for the Arts, result from capital campaigns supported by gifts from the school’s constituents who pledge and pay their support over multiple-year commitments. The Office of Philanthropy is committed to valuing every student every day focusing on building relationships and uniting every member of the community to their interests in order to best support the philanthropic needs of our learning community.

Annual Giving is a yearly appeal for donations to support the day-to-day life of every student and faculty member by funding a variety of programs, including academics, faculty development, the arts, sciences, athletics, college counseling, technology, and the library. “Philanthropy means the practice of performing charitable or benevolent actions; love of mankind in general; synonyms include charity, generosity, altruism, contribution,” said Sheryl Piper, Director of Philanthropy. “Members of the Office of Philanthropy focus on connecting the Mission of Miami Country Day with the interests and generosity of our parents, alumni, students, grandparents and friends of the school.”

The school was founded in 1938 as an all-boys boarding school and in the 1970's, Miami Country Day became co-educational and the boarding program was phased out. Boarding rooms were converted into classrooms to make space for the growing student body. Originally a K-8 program, the school expanded to include an Upper School and graduated its first 12th grade class in 1981. After being incorporated as a non-profit, Country Day has been fortunate over the past 40+ years to be the beneficiary of generous and numerous gifts from many people. The generosity of others has maintained the school’s programs, supported faculty and the innovative professional growth and compensation program, and funded the buildings that today make up the 21 acre campus located in the Miami Shores community.

The Office of Philanthropy serves the entire Miami Country Day community. School publications share stories of our alumni and their successes after Country Day. Important news and events are communicated via our eblast messages and social media channels. Our office also works closely with the Parents’ Association and assists them in their many programs and activities that in turn support the students and teachers every year. A few ways their efforts and generosity have supported Miami Country Day School includes the Nathan Hurst ’89 Amphitheater, the Center for the Arts, community gardens, technology and faculty endowment.

We invite you to explore and consider investing in our learning community!
