Breakthrough Miami Site Director, Kierra Smith Leaves Legacy of Service
Beloved and longtime Breakthrough Miami (BM) Site Director, Kierra Smith's final day on campus was last Friday, August 30. Kierra has worked for BM at Country Day since 2013, shortly after BM came to our campus in 2012. Each summer, alongside Country Day's camps, BM Scholars, grades 5th to 8th, participate in academic enrichment courses in both core subjects and activities such as sports, dance, and music. During her tenure, Kierra oversaw Associate Site Director, Kenneth Garrett and on average, six other adult summer support staff.
The program has continued to evolve since its inception, hosting 22 summer interns (Teaching Fellows) and around 140 registered volunteers including BM alumni each summer. Since 2013, over 900 BM Scholars have participated in the program at Country Day as it continues to grow and prosper. The power of Breakthrough lies in the rich, meaningful, and reciprocal relationships that develop between volunteers, staff, scholars and their families each year. Many BM scholars return as volunteers and teaching assistants during high school and beyond. A special thank you to Kierra from the entire Miami Country Day community for your leadership, kindness, and passion during your time on campus. We wish you only the best in your next adventure.
