School Counseling

The School Counselors believe that social and emotional well-being is foundational to each student’s ability to grow and develop physically, emotionally, socially, aesthetically, intellectually and spiritually. By providing support and assistance for students, we guide them to attain the knowledge, attitudes, and interpersonal skills that allow them to develop as individuals that respect themselves and others.
School Counselors coach faculty and staff to support the Whole Child. With an emphasis on social emotional well-being, the counselors work with the faculty to ensure all students feel safe and supported on campus, that programming is inclusive and students' needs are represented in all aspects of campus programming.

Meet your Counselor

Mrs. Elizabeth De La Cadena has been a part of the MCDS community for 7 years. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who holds Bachelor’s degrees in English and Psychology from Virginia Tech and a Master’s in both Mental Health Counseling and Marital, Couple, and Family Therapy from Barry University.

Mrs. De La Cadena has worked in a variety of settings but quickly found that supporting children and families is where her heart lies. Mrs. De La Cadena wants every student in the Lower School to know the importance of talking with a trusted adult when they have “big emotions”, thus laying the foundation for a lifetime commitment to mental health without stigma.

Outside of MCDS, Mrs. De La Cadena enjoys parenting her three teenagers, along with her husband of 21 years.
