Miami Country Day School, an inclusive educational community, fosters an understanding of and respect for individual differences along a wide spectrum that includes, but certainly is not limited to, race, socioeconomics, gender, religion, disability, culture and sexual orientation. Through classroom instruction, professional growth and other programming, we advance the development of
healthy, empowered young adults who celebrate the local and global community. We commit to the pursuit of equity and the development of empathy that embodies our core values of honor, respect, wisdom and compassion and we instill the value of lifelong learning among students.
When choosing the right school for my daughter, it was important she felt she belonged and that everyone on campus saw her for who she is. A community of educators dedicated to helping her to become the best version of herself. This sense of belonging is what drives my work as the Diversity Director. Our team seeks to promote and nurture a culture that encourages everyone to bring their whole self to our campus. Together, we foster an understanding of and respect for individual differences and strive to celebrate what makes us special.
Through classroom instruction, professional growth, and other programming, we advance the development of healthy, empowered young adults, while celebrating the uniqueness of the local and global community of Miami. In creating the lifelong learner, from kinder to college, and beyond, we commit to the pursuit of equity and the development of empathy that embodies our core values of honor, respect, wisdom and compassion.
DEI Students Team
Creating Awareness, Understanding & Social Equity (CAUSE)
CAUSE is our student-led organization to ensure diversity programming is occurring on Campus. CAUSE coordinates our diversity and inclusivity efforts, alongside our diversity director and other organizations. CAUSE meets as a board to make certain that these discussions and events are happening on campus.
Representatives from each Upper School affinity group are selected and are responsible for attending CAUSE meetings, bringing issues of diversity and inclusivity to the group’s attention and making suggestions for all-Upper School programming. Members of CAUSE take part in training to equip them with the knowledge to effectively carry out diversity and inclusivity programming.
DEI Parents Team
The Miami Country Day Parent Diversity Committee
The Miami Country Day Parent Diversity Committee is one of our school’s greatest assets. Parents celebrate the diversity of our community by empowering each individual to share their unique perspective, creating the mosaic that is our school.
The goal is to strengthen and enhance a thoughtful environment that brings understanding to our various communities, including but not limited to race, socioeconomics, gender, religion, disability, culture and sexual orientation. The activities of the DEI parents team include:
The Diversity Initiative group
Book club and “Diversity Dialogues”
Ongoing education and engagement with broader groups
The Gender and Sexuality Alliance Student Leaders and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion are partnering with Safe School Miami to offer two Discussion Forums on Wednesday, October 28th.
Gender and Sexuality Alliance dialogues not only educate but bring LGBTQ youth and their allies together to build positive self-perception, to empower self-care, leadership, and advocacy skills. Youth speakers and panelists are an integral and compelling part of this Safe Schools dialogue, giving dimension, breadth, and depth to the youth statistics that only hint at the struggle LGBTQ youth endure.
The Social Justice X-Term Series, launched by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, CAUSE students, and Peer Counselors introduces a series of monthly dialogues focused on self-reflecting, forming allies, and building community.
