Safety Is Our #1 Priority!

Miami Country Day prides itself on putting the safety and security of our students and staff first. The gated campus requires all visitors to identify themselves and go through a quick background check before entering. All parents and visitors are required to report to the Camp Office. No adults should be on campus without an escort.

List of 4 items.

  • Arrival and Dismissal

Please follow these procedures closely. Failure to do so will cause tremendous upheaval in an already sensitive situation.

All programs will receive nametags with their camper(s) name and program affiliation on the first day of camp. Nametags must be clearly visible on the car dashboard during arrival and dismissal. Failure to do so will result in the child not being released at the end of the day.

North Campus: Day Camp and Mad Dance

107th Street: Academics, Aquatics, Basketball, Simple Soccer, Chess, and Top Flight

Any change in individuals dropping off and picking up campers should be reported to the Summer Camp Office or corresponding program director immediately even if nametags are transferred to the new vehicle. Unless there is inclement weather, follow the arrival/dismissal instructions below:

    Arrival Procedures
ALL cars should follow the set route (see page 6 for map). Do not try and turn in front of traffic. All cars will proceed in the following manner: drive to the end of either 107th street or our North Campus entrance, go through the turnaround, and stop at the next available drop-off spot. No need to get out of your car. Our staff will help your camper gather their things and be on their way quickly.

    • Drop off is between 8:30 – 9:00 AM in the North Campus Turnaround and at the 107th Street Turnaround. Dismissal Procedures

    • Pick-up is between 3:00 – 4:45 PM in the North Campus Turnaround by the new Center for the Arts. See pgs. 14 - 16 for exact program pick-up times.

    • Pick-up at the 107th Street Turnaround is between 3:00 - 4:15 PM.

For families with children in programs ending at 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM, we offer a complimentary service that allows you to pick-up all of your children at the later dismissal time and location. To take advantage of this service, please complete and submit our Sibling Pick-Up Form found on our online Parent Portal prior to the first day of camp.
  • Behavior policy

The School does not condone bullying or harassment of any kind. All reported incidents, verbal or written, will promptly be investigated by the Program Director or Director of Auxiliary Programs. Upon a determination of bullying or harassment, appropriate action will be taken against any camper or employee who has violated this policy. Actions may include one or more of the following: warning, parent conference, suspension, or dismissal.
  • Swimming Pool Policy

There are certified lifeguards who are trained in CPR on the pool deck at all times. We employ a large and welltrained Aquatics Staff. All of our staff have received their WSI lifeguard and CPR certifications. The ratio of campers to swimming instructors is not greater than 1:5.

Unless a camper has a doctor’s note and a legitimate reason to not get in the pool (a broken limb, illness, etc.), we expect that campers will go swimming when swim is on their schedule.

Every new camper will be required to take a preliminary swim test at the beginning of the week. Campers will be put into groups of similar ability level and given a colored bracelet to indicate their swimming ability:

Green: Passed swim test and can participate in pool activities.

Red: Did not pass swim test. Day Campers will be taught how to swim in their designated swim time. All other summer programs will participate in an alternative activity during pool time.

Yellow: Registered for private lessons. Please read below for information about how to register.

Your children need to wear their bracelets all week. Please do not take them off. Multi-week campers can expect to receive a new bracelet at the start of every week.

If your child did not pass their swim test and is given a red bracelet, they will be placed in our learn to swim program taking place during their groups designated swim time. This service is provided as part of their Day Camp aquatics offerings. If they are in one of our other Summer Programs, we strongly encourage you to register him/her for swim lessons with our Aquatics staff, which can be set up as small group instructional swim lessons during the scheduled swim activity or as private lessons before or after their program. All students who are registered for swim lessons will be given a yellow bracelet and be allowed to swim with instruction during their program’s scheduled pool time.

Call the Aquatics Office at 305-779- 6778 or email to inquire about swim lessons.
  • Weather Alert

Everyone remains under cover if there is lightning within a 3-mile radius. If this occurs during drop off or pick up, you will need to wait in your car until the threat subsides or park and pick up or drop off your child at their program location (cabin for Day Campers). Visit the Summer Camp Office if you need assistance navigating the campus.

Note: it may seem like a sunny day where we are, but if lightning is near, we will keep campers safely under cover. You will be notified if there is a weather alert via email. A warning banner will also be on our website.

    Hurricane/severe weather
In the case of severe weather or a named storm, please check our website for the most updated information. If we should have to close the campus, you will receive a phone call and email from us.
