Upper School Theater Spring Show

The Upper School’s Theatre program is excited as we just finished filming our spring musical, The Drowsy Chaperone!
The drama kids are SO excited to share their work with our school community! We are showing the production on Tuesday, March 23 at 7 pm in the drive-in at Dezerland Park Miami and it will be Senior Night! Come support our kids, enjoy some popcorn, and have a great night!

The kids have worked so hard with months of rehearsal. Due to COVID safety measures, this show is the “Frankenstein of shows” since the 16 kids’ vocals were pre-recorded at home and then we mixed them and pieced it together. It sounds great! Then, we recorded each student one by one on a green screen over 6 days (75 hours plus) so they can record safely and then we digitally put them together on a screen so it would appear they are all together during the acting scenes.

We are so eager to share our hard work with the MCDS family. As always, admission is free plus the drama students would love to see you at the Drive-In. Please feel free to bring family and friends.

What’s the show about? With the house lights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan, and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight. Hailed by New York Magazine as "The Perfect Broadway Musical", The Drowsy Chaperone is a masterful meta-musical, poking fun at all the tropes that characterize the musical theatre genre.

Thank you in advance for your support!
