Senior Signings.........Congratulations to Chantell Gonzalez and Juliana Martinez...... Both signed their National Letter of Intent this morning to play their respective sports in college next year. Chantell will play basketball at Siena College and Juliana will play tennis at Bradley University. Congrats to both.....we are all proud of you.
Juliana Martinez-Bradley University
Juliana Martinez reached #8 in the state for 12 and under early on in her tennis career. At age 16, she finished 3rd in a national tournament while also making the doubles finals. She won back to back state doubles titles while at Krop to go along with a team state title in 2017 and was also named Miami Herald Player of the Year for girl’s tennis in 2019. She comes to Miami Country Day School this year looking to help take our girls team to states for the first time in history. A quote from her former Coach Mike Kypriss “Juliana is not only a champion on the court but also in the classroom and more importantly she is a tremendous teammate.”
Chantell Gonzalez-Siena College
Chantell Gonzalez will be entering her second year with the Lady Spartan basketball team. Last year, she played an important role in winning a sixth consecutive state title. She also helped the Lady Spartans achieve their #1 national ranking. Chantell was selected all-county honorable mention by the Miami Herald last year after averaging 2.5 blocks per game. This year, she will look to be a force in the paint and lead the girls to a seventh consecutive state title. A quote from Coach O “Chantell has improved in all aspects of her game but the thing that I appreciate the most is the leader that she has become”.
In Tuesday’s Athletic Action......The Boys Varsity Soccer Team (0-1) lost to Mater Lakes Academy 1-0. Erik Pantin had 5 shots on goal, and Ethan White, Enzo Lagrassa-Gillet, Rafael Urbina, and Lucas Crespo all played well on defense. The Girls Varsity Soccer Team (0-1) lost to Mater Lakes Academy 4-3. Becky Bibas led the way with 2 goals, and Lucia Arsila scored on an assist from Aly Rodriguez.
Today......The Girls Varsity Basketball Team travels to South Broward High School to play Naples Barron Collier High School in a pre-season game at 5pm.
On Thursday.....The Girls and Boys Varsity Soccer Teams travel to North Broward Prep at 5/7pm, the Girls and Boys Middle School Soccer Teams host Westminster Christian at 4/5:30pm (Livestreamed Events), and the Girls Varsity Basketball Team travels to South Broward High School to play Krop in a pre-season game at 6:30pm.
Fall Sports Awards Ceremony: Our Fall Sports Awards Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, December 4, at 6:30pm. This ceremony should only last about 30-45 minutes, so please join us in celebrating the outstanding accomplishments our of Fall student-athletes and coaches.
