Dana Vignale Appointed as New Upper School Director
On behalf of the Upper School search committee and our Head of School - Elect, Mariandl Hufford, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Dana Vignale as the new Upper School Director, effective July 1, 2019.
Following a comprehensive international search that involved various members of our community, the Search Committee was thrilled to select a seasoned educator with deep seeded roots in the Miami community to carry the Upper School forward:
“Smart, experienced, and with energy to spare, Dana Vignale is uniquely positioned to take on the leadership of our Upper School. With Dana, we have secured a leader who has varied and deep experience in the best practices of secondary education and who will work alongside our remarkable teachers to build upon the strengths of our Upper School. I am so proud that Dana has agreed to join the team at Miami Country Day." said Mariandl Hufford, Head of School - Elect.
Dana grew up in Pennsylvania and South Florida. She has a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science from Florida International University with a focus on Secondary English Education. She also holds a Master's in Education in private school leadership from the Klingenstein Center at Columbia University.
Dana is a life-long educator and engaged resident of Miami Shores. From her tenure as a Middle and Upper School English teacher in the private and public sector to serving as a principal of a Charter School in Broward County, she brings a local level of expertise and understanding of education, second to none, to the Miami Country Day community.
In her most recent leadership role as Executive Director of Miami-Dade County Public Schools – Office of Innovation and School Choice, she has managed a portfolio of seven charter schools, providing them education and operational support while allowing school autonomy to ensure each has achieved its school mission. She has led the development of an advanced academic program, Cambridge International Examinations, for grades six through twelve at MAST Academy at Key Biscayne. The Cambridge International program provides students an internationally recognized qualification that is valued and understood both in the United States and abroad.
Dana listens and collaborates with faculty and is comfortable making decisions to ensure student success. She is naturally active in community activities and events, and is currently an appointed member of the Village of Miami Shores Education Advisory Board. She believes in working together with students, parents, and faculty to create a fertile ground for ideas to flourish while creating an environment that will unlock each community member's purpose and ingenuity towards achieving the school's mission.
Upon receiving the news of her selection, Dana had the following words to share with our community:
“I am honored to have been selected as the next Upper School Director of Miami Country Day School, fulfilling my lifelong dream of leading in a school within my local community. The Country Day community is comprised of such unique, talented individuals dedicated to the intellectual and social-emotional growth and development of children. Joining such a talented team during a defining moment in the School’s history is a tremendous privilege."
In closing, I would like to thank the members of the Upper School search committee for their dedication throughout the selection process. The Search Committee is also incredibly grateful for all of you who played a part in the search. The involvement of our students, faculty and staff, administrators, parents, and alumni was immensely critical in this process, and we thank you for taking the time to meet and provide feedback on all of our candidates.
