    Helping children learn and excel is the goal of juniors Sophia G and Maria P. Planning together since last May, they recently initiated MCDS' “Study Buddies”, a tutorial program for the children of Miami Shores Elementary. Meeting every Tuesday, from 4 pm to 5 pm, a team of Study Buddies will assist students, from 2nd to 5th grade, with math, reading, and homework assignments.

    Griffin Steutel – Golf
    Griffin won the South Florida PGA Golf Tournament in Boca by shooting a 2-day score of 138, finished 1st out of 120 golfers. He also shot an even-par 73 at the Archbishop McCarthy Tournament. 
     
    James Brill – Football
    James threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Dieppa, ran for 72 yards, and intercepted a pass on the final play of the game to secure the Spartans’ 13-12 win against Scheck Hillel. 
     
    Middle School Female Athlete of the Week
    Madison Castro – Varsity Swimming
    Madison finished 2nd in the 50 and 100 Freestyles, was on the winning 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relay Teams in a meet against Doctors Charter, Chaminade, and LaSalle.

    The Miami Country Day Learning Resources (LR) program provides nearly 100 students grades 6-12 a curriculum that focuses on the same concepts and skills as other college preparatory courses. The differences in the program occur in the method of instruction and in assessment of students.     When Mr. Walter Pineda, the Associate Director of College Counseling, was asked to describe the role of a College Counselor at Miami Country Day School in 30 seconds, he responded, “You are a cheerleader, a guide, a mentor, a sounding board, a mediator. You are whatever is necessary at whatever moment in time for a parent, student, or anyone else participating in the [college admission] process.” Together with Mr. Pineda, the College Counseling team consists of Marnie Allen, Director of College Counseling, and Marisol Sardina, Associate Director of College Counseling, who combined have over 65 years of service and work experience at Miami Country Day.

  • Miami Country Day Seniors Win 2 Silver Knight Awards

    Congratulations to Danielle Geathers (Sports) and Rachel Thomas (Science) on winning Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald Silver Knight Awards on May 17th. They become the 9th and 10th Miami Country Day Silver Knight Award winners since 1995.

    Now in its 60th year, 742 seniors from 115 schools were nominated this year. Of those, 15 students in Miami-Dade and 15 in Broward were named winners on Thursday, May 17th in a ceremony at the James L. Knight Center. They took home a Silver Knight statue, $2,000 and 25,000 American Airlines Advantage miles.

    In total, Miami Country Day had six nominees this year including honorable mention, Danielle Amoils (Art).
