6. How has your role and your day to day responsibilities changed since the COVID-19 Pandemic?

It’s a strange time to be a student in medicine. As a 3rd and 4th year, you spend all your time in the hospital on rotations. Now, everything is virtual, due to the hospital being turned into essentially a 100% COVID population with limited PPE supplies. To help more on the “frontlines,” I am a supervisor for the Florida Department of Health COVID-19 line, where I help oversee our call center as well as provide guidance for Florida residents and doctors/healthcare employees. I am also spending a lot of time in the lab.

Additionally, one of the big medical student efforts is collecting PPE donations (masks, gloves, face shields, disposable gowns, money) for the University of Miami Hospital and Jackson Memorial Hospital. If anyone would like to help donate to this effort, please reach out to me via email at
cpremer@med.miami.edu.

7. What are some of the challenges you and your colleagues are facing due to the pandemic?

There’s an uneasiness about everything. Nobody really knows what to expect or how this will all play out.

8. With this shift in your personal and professional life, how are you practicing self-care?
Riding my bike (on the indoor trainer – I definitely don’t need any more cycling crashes for those who know me), trying to walk and run outside when I can, and getting lots of beautifully home-cooked meals thanks to my Hubby who is stuck working from home.

9. What advice or words of wisdom would you like to give to our Spartan Community?

We are all in this together. I know it’s very uncertain times, but we have an awesome community to lean on. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, and if there’s anything I can do, feel free to reach out to me!
