6. How has your role and your day to day responsibilities changed since the COVID-19 pandemic?

First responders are responsible for initial contact and treatment most times in dangerous situations. Our roles and precautions have increased enormously all around. We have increased our PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), revamped protocols, implemented new trainings, and most importantly focused on keeping our own safe to go home to their families.
 
7. What are some of the challenges you and your colleagues are facing due to the pandemic?
 
The biggest challenge is avoiding exposure via preparation and decontamination so as not to transmit the disease to other firefighters or our families.
 
8. With this shift in your personal and professional life, how are you practicing self-care?
 
If I’m being honest, at this point my focus is not on personal self-care, but more about the crew I work with. It is my responsibility to make sure everyone goes home safe.
 
9. What advice or words of wisdom would you like to share with our Spartan community? 

Everyone is facing tough times, no-one is immune to this situation - physically or financially. Be kind and optimistic and know we all will get through this together. "Tough times call for tougher people."
