Breakthrough & Bridges Miami dialogues
November 13

In a world of increasing connectivity, there is increasingly a risk of isolation, lacking the skills and opportunity to interact and establish relationships with others with perceived differences. Breakthroughs and Bridges aim to foster the next generation of leaders that embrace difference as an asset and have the skills to establish and nurture real relationships, empowering them in their personal and professional lives.
This workshop/facilitated dialogue brings together students from diverse schools and communities. Breakthroughs and Bridges will create safe spaces for student participants to be challenged for the development of self and group to think about issues and concerns within their communities and how they can begin to creatively work together to design solutions. The workshop also aims to empower students with lasting skills to effectively serve as the architects of their future society, one where differences are celebrated as assets.

The City We Serve: The Many "Miamis"
January 14 and 15: Upper School Community Time

Miami is a city on the cusp of becoming a Global metropolis, with a population makeup that reflects America’s changing demographics. However, Miami has also been a hotbed of discrimination, political maneuvers, and civil unrest whose echoes are felt even today. This workshop seeks to cover everything from the Tequesta people who once inhabited this area, to the creation of Overtown, the influx of immigrants from the Caribbean and Latin America, the McDuffie protests, wet foot/dry foot, and everything in-between. We then draw parallels from Miami’s storied past to its current triumphs and challenges.
