Important Update for Parents of PK3, JK4, SK5 & 1st Grade Students

Dear Parents of PK3, JK4, SK5 & 1st Grade Students,

Now more than ever, schools are faced with answering the question, “How will we utilize technology to help children achieve and prepare for the world?”  This spring, we were forced to explore the many facets of this very important question. Due to the unusual circumstances we found ourselves in, we witnessed the important role technology played even for our youngest learners. This interactive tool helped us communicate, collaborate, and create. Our students were able to connect with their teachers, access materials to enrich and broaden their learning, and expand their knowledge of the world around them. As we prepare for next year, we have crafted a carefully considered age appropriate plan that will ensure all our children have access to this important tool.

Beginning with the 2020-2021 academic year, Miami Country Day School will loan all students in PK3, JK4, SK5, and 1st Grade a personalized iPad and protective case to be used throughout each school day. Each student will be assigned a specific iPad in August. iPads will not be permitted to be shared with other students. Each iPad will be configured to unlock for the specific student’s fingerprint to which it was assigned. The purpose of providing assigned iPads to each student is to enable additional learning engagement and instruction extension throughout each day on campus.

Loaned iPads are for use while on campus only. Should Miami Country Day School be required to conduct courses online, students would be permitted to bring the loaned iPad home.

Please note that all iPads must be returned at the conclusion of the academic year or upon the student’s departure from academic studies at Miami Country Day School. Should an iPad not be returned in working condition, the student billing account will be assessed a replacement fee at the actual replacement cost at that time.

Please know, as a school community, we continue to honor our commitment to educating the whole child.  We understand the necessity of hands-on, multi-sensory learning and play. The plan shared above, will increase access to one of the many tools that we will use to foster your child’s growth.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
