In Thursday’s Athletic Action….The Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team (1-0) beat Palmetto High School 14-8. Noah Reines led the way with 4 goals, Noah Markofsky and Jake Fishman each scored 3 goals, Chaz Berkowitz added 2 goals, and Jack Finvarb and Marlon Robins each scored. The Girls Middle School Tennis Team (1-0) beat Divine Savior 7-0. Lucia Burton, Brookie Kovacs, Scout Hudson, and Sierra Rosen all won their singles matches, and Ginger Jacob and Scarlett Richards, Talia Kurlandski and Remi Rosenfeld won their doubles matches. The Boys Middle School Tennis Team (1-0) beat Divine Savior 7-0. Max Castanon, Cliff Halliwell, Juan de Zabala, Francesco Rumiano, and Michael Claramonte won their singles matches, and Max and Cliff, Oscar Bergier and Gabriel Srendi won their doubles match. The Varsity Baseball Team lost a pre-season game to Hialeah Miami Lakes 7-1. Connor Goodman doubled, and Eric Germeus scored. The Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team (1-0) lost to Gulliver 4-0 in the first girls’ game in school history. Andrea Pantin had 10 ground balls, Michelle Jacobo made 16 saves, and Laureen Jean-Jacques forced 17 turnovers. The Boys Varsity Basketball Team (11-16) lost to Westminster Academy in the Regional Semifinals 105-49. The results of the Girls and Boys Varsity water polo matches against Hialeah High School will be in Monday’s update.
Today…..the Boys and Girls Varsity Water Polo Teams host a tournament all day (girls play at 1pm/5:10pm, Boys play at 1:50pm/6pm), the Varsity Baseball Team hosts a pre-season tournament at 4/7pm, the Girls and Boys Varsity Tennis Teams travel to Oxbridge Academy at 3pm, the Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team travels to Calvary Christian at 6pm, and the Softball Team travels to Horeb Christian at 4pm.
On Saturday…… the Boys and Girls Varsity Water Polo Teams host a tournament all day (girls play at 10:30am/6:50pm, Boys play at 11:20am/4:20pm), and the Middle School Lacrosse Team hosts Westminster Christian at 9am and Palmetto Middle School at 11:30am.
Girls Varsity Basketball……The Girls Varsity Basketball Team (the #1 team in the Country) travels to Lakeland next Wednesday and Thursday to compete for a record 6th consecutive state championship. The girls will play P.K. Yonge on Wednesday at 10am and the winner of Slam Academy and Carrollwood Country Day on Thursday at 2pm. Fan buses will leave the CFA on Wednesday at 5am and Thursday at 9am. Additional details will be sent out by the end of today. A special thanks to Mrs. Carroll Kelly for making these arrangements.
Winter Sports Awards Ceremony…… Our Winter Sports Awards Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, March 6, at 6:30pm. We are asking all coaches, student-athletes, friends, and families to report to the rooms listed below for individual and team recognition, as well as special awards. This ceremony should only last about 30-45 minutes, so please join us in celebrating the outstanding accomplishments our of Winter student-athletes and coaches.

Free EKG Testing…… Every three days in the United States, a child suffers from Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) occurs when the heart unexpectedly experiences an electrical malfunction, which leads to an irregular heartbeat. The use of a pediatric electrocardiogram (EKG) is critical to help diagnose asymptomatic heart defects, which may not otherwise be evident. SCA can be the first sign of a heart condition, with over half of the children experiencing no symptoms at all prior to fatal cardiac arrest.
Nicklaus Children’s Hospital has created a life-saving initiative for children. The focus of this unique heart screening series is to create an awareness of the importance of pediatric heart screenings in an effort to identify children at risk of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).
Harrison’s Hearty Helpers led by Miami Country Day School’s student “Harrison Breslow” has enlisted the help of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to bring FREE EKG screenings to our Miami Country Day School students in grades 6-12. The voluntary heart screenings will conveniently take place on Wednesday, March 6th between 9am-5pm in the Health Room.
Earlier today we published the online form “EKG Screening Permission (form 1 of 2)” to your MyCountryDay parent account (http://www.miamicountryday.org/MyCountryDay). This form only needs to be completed by one parent or guardian and will be available through Friday, March 1st. Once you complete the screening permission form, you will be presented a link to download a second form required by the hospital to provide a medical background to be taken into consideration while they perform the actual tests. Please complete both forms no later than Friday, March 1st.
