It is a pleasure to welcome you to the beautiful Stanley and Dorothy Whitman Library at Miami Country Day School.
Clearly, it’s a Library to be proud of: a place where all are welcome to come and study, do research, have meetings all the while, utilizing the latest in technology.
We anticipate that generations of students will study here, prepare for college and ultimately revolutionize our world and its future. Faculty now had increased technological access to all forms of media and information. Parents have access to our library services in an outstanding venue where they can be assured that their sons & daughters are receiving an excellent education and developing into tomorrow’s leaders.
The Whitman Library is the center of our campus life.
We are located in the first floor of the Katherine E. Franco Center for Learning Resources. The Whitman Library houses a collection of 19,000 books, hundreds of AV lectures and movies, 33 magazines and 5 newspapers as well as subscriptions to 12 online specialized databases.
We offer 39 laptops and 4 online information stations for quick access so students can review homework assignments, print copies and search the collection. We also have 10 iPads for student use. All computers have WIFI access. Students are welcome to use the computers for academic purposes.
Our electronic databases offer students the latest sources of information for academic and research purposes. Visit our databases page to view a list of links to our online subscriptions.
- Individual Study Rooms. If you seek a place for quiet individual study, the Library offers 3 small rooms on a first come, first serve basis.
- Special Collections Room. This lovely, relaxed area houses over 300 autographed books and it is ideal for small groups and meetings.
- Library Classroom.Teachers may reserve this for small classes working on projects. Students may use this space for quiet study and use the 4 computers which are reserved for them. Teachers are welcome to have meetings here. Tutors may use this space also.
We also have 6 study carrels, tables and chairs in the general reading area. Adjacent to the Whitman Library are two decks (upper & lower) for student use.
Everyone in our school community is welcome and encouraged to use the valuable resources of the Whitman Library.
