Creative Inventions
Rube Goldberg n. a comically involved, complicated invention, laboriously contrived to perform a simple operation – Webster’s New World Dictionary
For the past couple of weeks students in the 8th grade have been working long and hard to create the perfect invention. You would think this would be an easy task, but on the contrary, this task takes time, special attention to detail, patience and a whole lot of creativity. This is what some of the students had to say:
Team members - Chanel, Isaac and Ricky used the following words to describe their invention experience; super fun, complex, intense, fun & creative.
Tyler – Fun and a lot of work, but most important it thaught me how important it is when picking partners.
Madison – It was really fun and hard at the same time. In the end you really know your machine well.
Isabela – Showed me how intelligent Rube Goldberg was and how difficult it is to actually invent and build a machine.
Emil – Even though the project was time consuming, all of the hard work had good outcomes.
Jordan – The project helped me be creative and get into a creative mind set for other school tasks.
Teddy – I thought this was a very socializing experience; it helped me learn how to cooperate and work with my peers.
As you can well see, this project does not just teach the students about science, it teaches them how to communicate, interact with different students with different ideas, be creative and most importantly - that learning can be fun.
