Home►About Us►The Spiritual PotentialThe Spiritual Potential Miami Country Day School believes in developing a strong foundation of the spiritual potential in our students. We teach Judeo-Christian values of faith, hope, and love. Students learn an overview of the major religions and an appreciation for all faiths and differences. Moral development reaches the entire school in everyday lessons of justice and fairness. We foster an appreciation of the value of the family and its role in the collaborative process of education.
We strive to prepare children not only for college, but also for life. Students, faculty, and parents are encouraged to live by a set of core values to act as models for action and behavior. The core values held by the school are honor, respect, compassion, and wisdom. Honor fosters integrity and truthfulness, which leads to correct and trustworthy actions. Respect encourages valuing the rights and opinions of others as well as acting with consideration towards others. Compassion expects action towards others with empathy, care, acceptance, and understanding. Wisdom defines intelligence and knowledge, which comes with experience and allows for good judgement and insight. Students in the Upper School take one semester of World Religions to build a healthy respect and tolerance for the world's religious traditions. The elective in Religion and Film allows students to explore the theological expressions of culture through the film medium, while additional electives in Philosophy and Ethics give students the opportunity to explore their moral make up and express their opinions and concerns in relation to the human experience. Ultimately, the courses in the religious studies department allow students an opportunity for moral, ethical, and spiritual growth, while enjoying and building healthy relationships with their peers.
