Home►About Us►The Emotional PotentialThe Emotional Potential Faculty serve as teachers as well as mentors, coaches, and advisors. This gives them the opportunity to know the students as multifaceted individuals, not just students sitting at a desk. Our teachers realize that students are young adults ready to take their place in the world and they work to prepare them well. When the graduating seniors advance to college and universities across the nation, students and teachers share hugs and tears of joy and sadness as another set of friends sets foot into the world.
The Guidance Department maintains and develops a pro-active program of prevention and wellness within the Life Skills and Seminar curriculum, which addresses a broad range of relevant issues developmentally guided by the age of the students. This program begins in the third grade and continues through grade 10. In grades kindergarten through second and eleven and twelve, the Guidance Department provides a consultative role to homeroom teachers and advisors. Continued commitment is maintained to strengthen and update the Life Skills and Seminar curriculum to address timely topics, for example bullying and internet safety. It is the goal of the Guidance Department to develop a comprehensive guidance program to assist faculty, staff, and parents in identifying the social and emotional needs of students and supporting students' personal growth. Guidance counselors provide a consultative role and a short-term therapeutic role for students and parents. They meet weekly with their divisional administrators to maintain communication regarding the needs of our students. The program provides a comprehensive forum which allows the counselors to gain a well-rounded perspective.
